The Chimes Covington
About This Spot
Stepping into The Chimes in Covington, you’re welcomed by an atmosphere that hums with Southern charm and lively energy. It’s the kind of place where hearty conversations unfold over big, shareable plates and the pace feels comfortably unhurried—even when the space fills with local gatherings or out-of-towners drawn by its reputation. The blend of rustic charm and contemporary Louisiana warmth invites you to settle in, whether inside amid warm lighting or outside on a glowing evening patio where the night air blends with the scent of chargrilled oysters and spices.
The experience here is deeply rooted in community and tradition. It’s a spot that understands the joy of gathering around the table, where every dish tells a story of place and season. You’ll find yourself drawn to classics with a thoughtful twist—like gumbo simmered with rich duck stock, fresh oysters chilled just right, or the perfectly indulgent shrimp and grits that echo coastal flavors. Portions lean toward generous, encouraging that comfortable feeling of lingering, sharing bites, and savoring both the food and the easy camaraderie around you.
What stands out just as much as the menu is the rhythm of the dining room—friendly yet busy, a little loud but vibrant rather than overwhelming. It’s a place where you might hear laughter from a birthday party at the next table or the casual clinking of bourbon glasses among friends unwinding after a long day. Thoughtful touches, like attentive service paired with genuine Southern hospitality, help balance the lively atmosphere, making it feel welcoming whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply craving a memorable meal in a place that feels like a second home.

Very crowded place for sure, good southern hospitality staff/service. Good appetite selection but don’t over do it if you are ordering a boatload plate. Kinda on the loud side but the table are space out enough to accommodate hearing at your table. Recommend PoBoy’s sandwiches if you want lighter meal.

Came from out of town and went here strictly off Google reviews. Had a very solid bourbon and beer selection. The oysters were huge and cold and everything came out as expected and was delicious. We would certainly come back if we make it back this way.

I thought I had better photos and videos, but trust me; the experience was worth it! One plate was big enough to feed two people. We had appetizers, main courses, and everything was absolutely delicious. The portions were huge! We celebrated a birthday here, and for 4 adults and 1 child, the total came to about $200; well worth it. We sat outside, and the atmosphere made it even better. Highly recommend! Our waitress was outstanding

I really love this restaurant! I went there for Valentine’s Day with my mom and husband. While we were given an hour to wait, it went by really fast. They use a text messaging system to let you know when your table is ready. You can refresh it for accurate info. The atmosphere is great! The lighting is perfect for conversation. The inside is lovely but the outside is absolutely gorgeous at night!! The food is amazing as well! There are a lot of seafood options, some non seafood, and maybe three vegetarian options. However, whatever you decide will be flavorful! It’s a great taste of Louisiana foods.

I acknowledge my group were not the nicest folks to handle if you're a restaurant worker. But that's mostly just because they were growing impatient waiting to be sat. We had made a reservation for 4:00 p.m. and it took a long time to get sat, maybe like 45 minutes or so. I think around 4:40 p.m. they offered us a table but I made the decision to wait 10 to 15 minutes longer for the nicer table, that's on me. But still, I think there should have been some kind of way for the restaurant to be more prepared because we had a reservation already. I've worked in restaurants before and so I get it that it's sort of hard to coordinate telling a table that they need to get up or something but there needs to be some kind of way to do that because it's not really fair to the people who made a reservation. If it's simply a matter of booking 2 different people at a bad time in relation to each other then maybe that's something that the team at the chimes can think about. Anyway the food's not bad, our server Josh was really great and patient and nice. And it's a really nice atmosphere, really nice restaurant, really cute/cool concept too with the boardwalk in the back and the goats and kayaking. Nice, quality place to go for dinner.

Ummm the Brie and crab soup is magical. I don’t know what is in there but someone is going to have to roll me out of this restaurant. The dressing on the spring salad is delicious. The oysters are huge. We are here from out of town for a business event and I might have to move here just for this soup. Eat here. You won’t regret it.

The Chimes is hands down one of the best spots in Louisiana for good food and good vibes. The place has that rustic, laid-back feel that makes you instantly comfortable, and it’s super family-friendly, which I love. The food is amazing. The charbroiled oysters are a must have every time I visit. The gator is tender and so tasty. The catfish is always fresh and perfectly cooked, and the gumbo is rich and comforting, just like it should be. Don’t skip the boudin balls, and if crab fingers are in season, get them — you won’t regret it. What makes The Chimes really special is the atmosphere. It’s the kind of place you can bring your kids, meet up with friends, or just relax and enjoy a meal that feels like home. Big portions, friendly staff, and food that keeps you coming back — it’s a true gem in the South.
